Producer Responsibility Obligatons ( packaging regulations ) 1997.

Regulations require businesses with a turnover greater than £ 2 million , which supply or import more than 50 tonnes of packaging a year , to register and fulfill an obligation to recover or recycle a specific amount of packaging.

A business must calculate the weight and type of packaging they supplied in the previous year. Using this data they can calculate how many tonnes of PRNs of different material types they are required to purchase.

Jayplas is a creator of PRNs by it’s various recycling activities , and obligated company can purchase PRNs from recycling companies like Jayplas to meet their obligations.

These were in effect an update of the previous regulations to take into account franchise businesses , businesses which rent out packaging and small companies.

Farmers under the legislation are required to store up their waste for a maximum of twelve months prior to disposal at a licenced site, or apply to the Environment Agency for a landfill permit , licence exemption or waste management licence.
